Summary

The dominant narrative says AI is wiping out jobs, but that's not the full story. The real issue isn't AI replacing people it's leaders misreading what's actually happening.

In this episode Darren Hardy breaks down the critical distinction between perception and reality:

Why companies are blaming AI for layoffs (and what's really driving them)
The surprising data showing no direct link between AI adoption and job loss
The rise of "AI washing" as a convenient corporate narrative
The real risk: not AI itself, but the growing Operator's Gap

This is not just a technology shift, it's a leadership shift. The opportunity isn't in knowing about AI. It's in operationalizing it.

I think that most of what you're hearing about AI right now is wrong, or let's just say not completely informed.

0:20.7

I want to make sure that we're starting

0:22.3

from the right baseline before I get to answering anything. So here's what I mean. You've seen the

0:27.1

headlines, right? The mass layoffs, entire departments being eliminated. Stanford's computer

0:31.8

science graduating class, the most prestigious CS program in the world just posted a 5.8% job placement. 5.8. In 2019, that number was

0:42.3

94%. In 22, it was 78%. 24. 31%. Now, 5.8. So the story everybody's telling is AI is eating the job

0:53.5

market alive.

0:55.0

And if you're being honest with yourself, part of you is sitting there wondering, well,

1:00.0

how long before it reaches my business, my team, my role?

1:04.0

And I get it.

1:05.0

But here's what the headlines aren't telling you.

1:07.0

The Federal Reserve just published a study last month that analyzed the data

1:10.9

from more than a million firms, a million, and found zero evidence linking AI adoption to reduced

1:18.0

job postings, zero. And in their words, quote, precisely estimated null effects. So then,

1:26.9

what's actually happening? Well, 59% of companies openly admit they

1:31.6

emphasize AI's role in layoffs because, and this is a direct quote, it plays better with

1:38.3

stakeholders than citing financial constraints. Jack Dorsey, as you know, laid off 4,000 workers at Block,

1:46.1

roughly 40% of his workforce and tied the cuts to AI-driven efficiency gains.

1:52.3

Block stock jumped as much as 20% after the announcement, and it closed up 17% up that day.

1:59.6

Now, I ask you, what do you think would have happened if Jack
