of acute respiratory viruses, which has been shared around in the media by folks claiming

that it has definitively cemented proof that masks work but mandates don't, or that masks work individually,

but are useless at the community level. And I want to pause for a second here on the mask

mandate point. Oftentimes when you talk about mandates, people will say, well, how will it be

enforced? What if people wear the masks wrong and don't comply?

The answer is that the point of the mandate is not enforcement.

It's communication.

It's about conveying the conditions necessary to protect ourselves at the population level.

It's about context.

And it's about understanding that when it comes to infectious diseases, especially, protecting

yourself at the individual level is not and will never be enough.
