Summary

For some, this may be the saddest part about Heaven, but it shouldn't be! Fr. Mike dives into the deeper meaning behind this teaching and explains why it's actually good news. He reminds us that Heaven isn’t a loss of love, but the fulfillment of it. In Heaven, you won’t love your spouse less… you’ll love them more than ever before.

I would never have guessed. The teaching that he was so troubled by, like genuinely, deeply

perturbed was the word, is, my name is Father Mike Schmitz, and this is Asentra Presents.

I remember this conversation I had with a man a number of summers ago, and he was a husband

0:15.6

and a father of a number of children. He said, I have a really big problem with the teachings

0:20.8

of the Bible, the teachings of the church. It really just grates on me every time I hear it. He said, I have a really big problem with the teachings of the Bible, the teachings

of the church. They really just grates on me every time I hear it. In heaven, there would be no

marriage. And he said, I love my wife so much. And if there's any teaching in the church, any

0:34.8

teaching of the scripture, any teaching of Jesus, that I just, ooh, just grates and grinds my gears, is this teaching that in heaven, I don't get to be married to my wife forever. I thought, wow, that's, I've never heard that. Number two, I thought, that's amazing. Like, I pause on this for one second. Here's a man who's been married at that point, maybe 30 years, give or take, maybe even more. And he was like, that's not enough. To imagine loving someone, this is so beautiful. Imagine loving someone so much that you're like, I've already been married to them for 30 plus years. And even if we make it to 50, maybe we make it to 60. That wouldn't be enough for me.

1:12.2

That's awesome. But what's the heart of the teaching? The heart of the teaching is not this. We have to understand this. So Jesus says, in heaven, there is neither marriage nor giving in marriage. Okay, great. What does that not mean? Here's what I think. Take it for what it's worth. I don't think that this means that if you

1:29.5

are married on earth, that your spouse is just another one of the random people in heaven.

1:35.1

I don't think that's what that means at all. Why? Because it doesn't make any sense for God

1:39.8

to say, okay, here's a great, good, and holy thing on earth. In heaven is just going to be destroyed. In heaven is just going to be neutered. In heaven is just going to be, it's going to be a big zero. It's going to be a big nothing. What does God reveal about the new heavens and the new earth? Well, he reveals that I has not seen, ear has not heard, nor has it so much has entered the mind

2:01.6

of man what God is in store for those who love him. In heaven, there's not less, there's

2:07.0

more, right? So just keep this in mind. In heaven, there is not less, there's more. Again,

2:12.8

Father Mike's opinion. It is highly unlikely that in heaven, your spouse is just another like, oh, yeah, hey, Bertha,

2:19.7

nice to, there you are, you know, good to see you around these days.

2:23.6

My guess would be you would love your spouse more in heaven than you ever did on earth.

2:31.5

You would also love everyone in heaven more than you're dead on earth, but that doesn't mean that you love everyone in heaven more than you're dead on earth but that doesn't mean that

2:37.2

you love everyone in this kind of generic vanilla bland one size fits all way why because god does

2:43.4

not love us in a generic bland one side fits all way that's not how god loves us god loves every one of us

2:49.3

infinitely but he also loves every one of us infinitely, but he also loves

2:51.0

every one of us infinitely uniquely. So think about this. God loves us infinitely, and he loves
