Summary

'Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is watching'

Brad Stulberg is a best-selling author, speaker and coach. He is a man whose social media posts have a rare value in what can be a sea of rage and golden-bullets. In this conversation, requested by one of our respective listeners, Brad and I discuss integrity, the problem with the 'optimization fad', and how consistency and community matter - even if they may be somewhat less 'sexy'.

This is party 1 of our conversation - part 2 is out tomorrow, and we go DEEP, into questions of identity, the difference between being and becoming, the different selves we have and which ones may be an illusion as well as nailing the balance between being and doing. You have to listen. Brad and I had a blast.

My book Champion Thinking: How To Find Success Without Losing Yourself draws on some of my favourite interviews over the last six years. In it, I seek to challenge our ideas about 'success', and where peace, joy and fulfilment are truly to be found.

'This book captures the magic of being in flow . . . Highly recommend' RONNIE O'SULLIVAN

'Entertaining and enlightening' MATTHEW SYED

'This book will challenge your thinking on what success truly is and will give you tools to "succeed" in life in the truest sense of the world.' GOLDIE SAYERS

'The intention behind this book is beautiful, and I highly recommend it' RUPERT SPIRA

Hey, welcome back. So you're about to listen to one of my favorite conversations in a while with

0:05.0

Brad Stalberg. Brad is a best-selling author, speaker and coach and co-creator of the growth equation

0:12.5

with another of my former guest, Steve Magnus, who was also brilliant. Now, Brad and I covered

0:17.8

loads in this conversation, including the problem with the optimization bros we see around these days, and how consistency and community are the things that really matter.

0:28.1

We discuss integrity, our respective mental health challenges and acceptance and loads more.

0:34.4

In fact, there was so much in this conversation, and in the second half in

0:37.5

particularly when we go really deep, that I've decided to split this into a part one and

0:41.9

part two. So part two will be out tomorrow, but this is part one. Here is Brad Stalberg. Brad, how are you? So good to see you. I'm well, Simon. Thanks for having me on.

1:07.5

It's an absolute pleasure. As I was just saying before we recorded, I'm a big fan of yours.

1:12.6

I'm a big fan of Steve Magnus, who you work with. They've already had him on the show.

1:17.2

And you both pop up at the top of my Twitter feeds day in, day out, pumping really valuable content.

1:24.3

So it's a pleasure to have you on to talk about the sort of things you like

1:28.7

talking about. Yeah, I'm thrilled to be here. And you are a coach, a speaker, an author,

1:38.5

will get on to some of the key ideas from your books. And we're going to talk a bit about optimizing. But first, I just want to say

1:45.4

thank you. You got me on to Callendly. You got me a bit organized. Like when we started organizing

1:51.4

this chat, you were like, do you want to send me a canonly link? And I was like, I don't use that.

1:55.8

And I've started using it. So you've already optimized my life to a degree. So thank you, Brad. Yeah, sometimes it's the

2:03.2

small things that seem so simple and trivial that make the biggest differences. And I know that

2:10.1

when I first started using Callen Lee after also just out of inertia resisting it, it really freed up a lot of my time and more importantly,

2:22.6

the parts of my job that I find very frustrating, the back and forth for scheduling.

2:27.6

It completely eliminated that.

2:29.4

And same for the person on the receiving end.
