Summary
The inclusion of scenes with explicit sex and nudity in “Oppenheimer” ought to make it off-limits to Christians who choose to follow biblical teachings on lust. However, avoiding the film, while vital for followers of Christ, is only one step in a broken culture that surrounds us daily with pervasive immorality. How are we to “put to death whatever is earthly” (Col. 3:5) in us?

| 0:00.0 | Greetings and welcome to the Daily Article Podcast. Today is Monday, July 24, |
| 0:07.0 | 2023. I'm Chris Elkins, narrating today's article written by Denison Forum co-founder and CEO, |
| 0:13.0 | Dr. Jim Denison. I wish I could see Oppenheimer, the Christopher Nolan movie that collected more than $80 million in its opening weekend. |
| 0:22.7 | Its theme is fascinating. |
| 0:24.2 | One of the most pivotal moments in history is brought to life through outstanding performances by superb actors. |
| 0:30.6 | When Janet and I saw the previews while viewing another movie, we decided, on the spot, we needed to see the film. |
| 0:36.8 | Then, I discovered that the movie includes |
| 0:39.3 | scenes with explicit sex and nudity. The director explained that he wanted to show that the |
| 0:44.5 | depicted romance transcended politics, but there is no moral way to justify immorality. And make no |
| 0:51.4 | mistake, the scenes keeping me from seeing Oppenheimer are immoral. |
| 0:55.6 | Jesus was clear in Matthew 5, verse 28. Everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has |
| 1:01.8 | already committed adultery with her in his heart. The same is true for women who looked |
| 1:06.2 | lustfully at men. According to Jesus, Oppenheimer caused millions of people to commit adultery over the |
| 1:12.8 | weekend. Once again, scientific research substantiates his point. Studies conclusively show that |
| 1:19.1 | viewing pornography, which is what the sex scenes in Oppenheimer constitute, change our brains |
| 1:24.1 | in damaging ways, quickly leads to stress, addiction, and escalating behavior, |
| 1:29.5 | fuels mental illness, and negatively impacts love, marriage, and intimacy. |
| 1:34.5 | In addition to the psychological effects of pornography, consider the spiritual, lust, like all sin, |
| 1:40.9 | grieves and stifles the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, as referenced in |
| 1:45.1 | Ephesians 4, verse 30, and 1st Thessalonians 519. This means that viewing the nudity in |
| 1:51.1 | Oppenheimer not only damages us, it keeps the spirit from working positively in and through |
| 1:57.4 | our lives. We suffer both the harm of lust and the lost opportunity of holiness. |
