Hello. I'm releasing three shorter clips this week before a new full-length episode next week. And the first of these is from my conversation with Damon Hill, the former Formula One world champion. And he talks about really going for something, burning the boats, as I say, when your heart is

0:22.6

set on a particular path, as it was in his case. Now, this is something that's spoken to me recently

0:28.2

with the way my work has evolved, particularly towards speaking and my coaching. And by the way,

0:33.7

you can book a free consultation to see if you would like to work with me in the show notes.

0:40.9

So let's fast forward a bit then because bikes were your initial passion from being a projectile point of view.

0:49.8

And then you were steadily rise in the ranks.

0:52.3

And then there was a fortuitous nudge that you could say from your mother that sort of sent you in the direction of cars. And there, you know, things were going pretty well right up until the point. So you speak about at that time, it must have been around 89 when interest rates were up at around 15%. Your first child Oliver had been born and all of a sudden you had no drive in terms of

1:17.2

you weren't offered a drive, not that you didn't have any internal drive.

1:20.3

But rather than give up, which a lot of people would have done, you thought no, even with

1:26.3

the external pressure of the economic challenges and all the other done, you thought, no, even with the external pressure of the economic

1:28.8

challenges and all the other things, you thought, no, I'll give it one more roll of a dice,

1:33.4

and you said that you gave it 110%, whereas you thought you'd been giving 110% before, but

1:39.0

perhaps you hadn't. So you can just tell me a little bit about that particular drive at that point

1:43.8

to go, okay, last roll of the dice. Yeah, I think when things, you know, you do have to look at yourself and say, okay, have I been doing, you know, it can't be the world. It must be something I'm doing wrong if it hasn't come off. So my mid-20s were spent racing, but I, you know, I think looking back, I would say,

2:04.9

although I was determined in races, I was slightly half-hearted in the rest of my life

2:10.8

as far as approaching what I did went.

2:14.1

And so when the chicken comes home to roost or whatever it is, you know, and you're up without a

2:19.6

prospect and without a job and you've got our family and you've got, as you said, interest rates were

2:23.8

actually 17%. Oh, wow. And the house you just bought has got subsidence. You realize, okay,

2:31.5

you can't, if you're going to do this, you're going to have to apply yourself a little bit harder.

2:35.7

And it's difficult to believe that you can try harder sometimes.

2:40.2

You think you're trying as hard as you can, but you're not covering all the bases.
