With that, let's get right to the Word of God.

On Sunday mornings, we're going through 1 Corinthians chapter by chapter and verse by verse.

And today we're in chapter 11, and our text will be verses 8 through 12.

I'll have you turn there, and then once you do, if you're able, I'll ask you to stand so you can follow along as I read.

We'll begin in verse 8 where the Apostle Paul by the Holy Spirit writes,

for man did not come from woman, but woman from man.

Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

It is, verse 10, for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own head because of the angels. Nevertheless,

in the Lord, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman.

But everything comes from God. Cool. Did you get that? Let's pray. Oh Lord. Admittedly we have a difficult passage before us today again in this chapter,

but we know that it's here in your word for a reason. And so Lord, would you, by the Holy Spirit, minister to us

that reason? We're looking to you to speak into our lives through your word. We pray. In Jesus

name, amen. You can be seated. Thank you. Today's teaching is part three of a series I've

titled, Why God's ordained authority is so important. Up to this point, the Apostle Paul has been

answering the questions that were sent him by the Corinthian Church

concerning a number of problems that they were having there in the church.

And it appears that one such problem was that the women there in Corinth were not wearing a covering on their heads while they were in church,

which was the custom in that culture. The cultural dynamics then were such that a woman would cover

her head while in church and she would do so as a symbol of respect

for the authority that she was under, namely the male authority that she was under.

I believe that it's for this reason that we have a chapter like this in our Bibles,

namely to show us why God's structure of authority is so important.
