A new reality show has sparked backlash from conservative Christian groups for featuring two gay dads.

Back to the Frontier, which is currently airing on HBO Max and Magnolia Network, is billed as a social experiment following three American families

as they attempt to live like 1880s homesteaders without modern technology, electricity or running water.

One of these families is Jason, Hannah and Joe Riggs, a married couple raising their 10-year-old twin sons.

The couple joined the show in part to increase visibility for same-sex families.

It was this great amazing opportunity to normalize same-sex couples and same-sex families.

The couple's inclusion has been met with criticism from the conservative Christian community,

with notorious evangelical leader Franklin Graham calling it sinful,

whilst anti-LGBQ plus groups such as the American Family Association,

have claimed the show promotes an unbiblical view of family.

Some critics have also taken aim at the show's executive producers, accusing them of betraying

Christian values.

Tick Gaines, one of the executive producers, addressed the backlash on social media, urging

viewers to ask questions and listen before judging.

It's a sad Sunday when non-believers have never been confronted with hate or vitriol

until they are introduced to a modern American Christian, he said on X.
