something massively bigger than yourself, why settle for crawling back to your tiny little kingdom

of one? Let's wake up, look up, and start living for a kingdom

growth and inner motivations. It's about kingdoms. It's about conquest. It's about warfare. But sadly,

many people are living a tiny little diminutive version of surface Christianity that we have been reduced to.

You could read your Bible every single day and read the entire Bible every single year and still be living for yourself.

You and I could have perfect church attendance every Sunday and at every midweek men's group or women's group and still be

living for our own tiny kingdom. You could put a high percentage of your earnings as money in the

offering plate every single week and still not be living with God's mission and kingdom in view.

You and I could have a Ph.D. in theology of God's mission and kingdom in view. You and I could have a PhD in theology of God's

word and still be living in a world where we're consumed with what we want and how we feel

and what other people should be giving to us. You could give to the poor and to the needy and still not be living for the

big kingdom. We could be doing all of these things and still have the trajectory of our life

heading more towards self rather than the kingdom of God. If we want to look for an example in

scripture of people who are living for their own tiny kingdom rather than the big kingdom of God, we don't need to look any further than the Pharisees.

These were those who were experts in public displays of religion to impress other people for their

own egos, to build up their own tiny kingdoms rather than being truly

devoted to the glory of God. And we can read a beautiful example of this kind of tiny kingdom

thinking in Matthew 23. In verse 13, Jesus says, what sorrows await the teachers of religious
