Summary

Co-host Nick Hauselman welcomes to the Muckrake Community Lew Friedland, a professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin - Madison and political activist who has been monitoring a chilling situation with the election of a state Supreme Court justice seat today. Conservatives have held the state legislature hostage in recent years, and getting firm control of the courts would enable them to ignore the will of the people and potentially reject electors for the 2024 presidential election.

0:48.4

to my own devices. And as a result, I wanted to have an interesting discussion about what's

0:53.3

going on in the middle part of America in a place that I hold near and dear to my heart since I went to the University of Wisconsin.

And I'm pleased to have on the show as a guest, Lou Friedland, who is a professor emeritus in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, and is very active politically in what's going on there. So Lou, thank you so much for being on the

1:14.7

show, and I think there's some really important things that you need to talk to us about.

1:19.1

Yeah, absolutely. You know, this Supreme Court race, I'm guessing by now, almost every one of your

1:26.3

listeners knows this, but this is, you know, it's a cliche, but it's true.

1:31.0

This is the most important race in the country right now, for sure.

1:36.2

I think it's important for a lot of reasons, but not the least of which is that our Supreme Court in 2020 came within one vote of giving our

1:49.4

electoral votes to Donald Trump. The Supreme Court was the only one in the country to consider

1:56.0

overturning the results of the election. If this election goes to the conservative tomorrow, he was an attorney

2:03.5

for the fake election slate. So that gives you an idea of what's going to happen in 2024. So
