I'm also a senior editor at The Dispatch and a columnist for Time magazine. The name of my piece is The

Hate at the Heart of Conspiracy Theory. I wrote it because I was dissatisfied with

the explanation for the rise of conspiracy theories on the American right.

I was speaking mainly when I wrote this back in September about the QAnon movement,

but as we've seen conspiracy theories spread about the allegedly stolen election of 2020, I was dissatisfied with

discussions of conspiracy theories. I thought they were fundamentally

insufficient in an important way. They're often locating the source of

conspiracy theory thinking in distrust, distrust of institutions, distrust of

individuals, and I think that that's inadequate to explain
