It's Monday, July 28, 2014. From slate, it's the gist I'm Mike Pasca. So every Sunday in the

New York Times, they'll say, huge story. It's in the middle of the front page and then you go and

then you find it's 17 pages inside, usually only two pages. I don't read all of those huge

stories because I find that if I don't read them and they're really important somehow I get to

know them, but I do read some of them and you know what I miss when I don't read a huge one? A

detail. There's always a detail. Not the telling detail like we talked about all the time. It's not

the one small thing that stands for larger. It's just sometimes a cast off or a little fact that

is fascinating or in the case of one a few weeks ago infuriating and I never got to mention this,

but there was that article about the girl who went to Hobart and she got raped and the school just

bungled the investigation like happens so often and they detail about just everything that went

wrong and at the center of this is this the panel that hears the testimony. Not just one sentence,

but they talked about who made up the panel that investigates rapes on campus and one was the

vice president of human resources. One was a assistant professor of psychology and the third

person on the panel was the woman who ran the bookstore because quote, she had expressed an

interest in serving on the panel. So that stood out to me. Now yesterday there was about the guy

and the family that owned the ferry that collapsed in South Korea. Guy named you, you,

young, you, and they would call him Mr. you and he was this millionaire, but he was mostly known as

sort of a cult leader in South Korea. They've tried to arrest him and there were all these details.
