0:00.0 | Have you ever looked around at what's happening in the culture right now and wondered what God's word has to say about your role in it? |
0:07.5 | I'm going to spend the next few minutes today talking about biblical discernment in an unbiblical age. |
0:13.4 | Stick around. I think you're going to be encouraged. |
0:15.9 | Well, thank you guys for joining me today. I, I, I, a couple, I'm going to give my normal plug here for Mom Strong International. |
0:30.5 | If you're not over at the Women's Bible study with me, you are missing out. We are studying right now all about motherhood, the irreplaceable role of mothers. |
0:40.3 | And I'm loving my teaching with you guys. I normally teach on Tuesdays and we spend quite a bit of time just, it kept, it's about what God has to say a little bit of teaching for me. |
0:51.2 | And then some interaction for me. I really want to hear what's going on in your life. |
0:55.5 | But the Mom Strong International community is a wonderful community of women who are dedicated to the study of God's word so that we can apply it to our everyday lives and pass on the truth of what God says to our children. |
1:08.3 | I've been a mother as you guys know for over 30 years and it's amazing to me to watch what is happening to our children right now on the watch of the church. In other words, our children are being targeted. |
1:21.2 | So you can't take a break. Mom's, you know, we used to be, we'd put our kids in front of the television and we'd watch the Sesame Street or whatever and we go, hey, I'm mama's going to go over here and I'm going to work on a project and you guys are going to watch, you know, Big Big Bird and Big Bird is going to tell you guys about the colors and the weather. |
1:37.2 | Well, now Big Bird's telling you how to be woke and that you're a racist and all the things and you can't leave your kids alone for a second and it's exhausting. |
1:45.7 | But it's exhausting because we're at war. |
1:48.8 | And I've been thinking a lot about, you know, my theme for my speaking season for the next year is called light a thousand fires. |
1:56.8 | And I'm really excited about it because I think it's going to be, I think God's going to use it to show a lot of people what they can do, what their role can be in the culture right now and how God wants to use you right where you are. |
2:10.6 | So a couple days ago, I spoke to you about the importance of discernment and I said that Spurgeon said that discernment was not known the difference between right and wrong. |
2:19.1 | It's knowing the difference between right and almost right. And so being able to kind of take a step back and instead of being kind of mired in the muck of what's happening around you from a 35,000 foot view looked down and be able to discern what's happening because you see a big picture view of the world around you. |
2:38.0 | That's what God's word does. It helps us get up above the muck in the mire and get a 35,000 foot view of what's going on from God's perspective. |
2:47.0 | So when we know the Bible, we can take what God is saying and we can look at the culture now the culture here and the God's word the foundation right of which everything should be filtered through. |
2:59.3 | So we take what's coming at us, we filter through the grid of scripture and then what comes out on the other side. That is what gives us the wisdom that we need to navigate the issues that they come up in the culture. |
3:11.3 | And we need to be able to give this discernment to our children. It's so important you guys and we're living right now in a really incredible time because we're seeing an incredible rise of biblical literacy in the church and it really has created just a perfect storm right. |
3:26.3 | A generation of Christians who know every word to every worship song that was ever written since 1980. |
3:34.3 | But we don't know God's word and we can't defend it. And I'm here to tell you right now it's much more important that you know God's word so that you can apply it to every aspect of your life. And it's not hard. That's the other thing. |
