Today we want to talk about something that happens in Pentecostal churches.

Now, if you were raised to Pentecostal, as I was blessed to be,

you probably don't give this a whole lot of thought.

But I know that people who come in from the outside, they sometimes have questions about

some of our practices.

And I want to ask you about one today, Dr. Bernard.

That practice is people, when we have prayer time at a Pentecostal church, especially if

someone is sick or has some kind of a need in their life.

Often the pastor, the person leading the service will give an opportunity, will create an

opportunity for people to come forward for prayer. During those prayer times, the pastor or the church

leader will often anoint. That's the term that we would use, but maybe to a layperson,

he would dab some oil on the head of the person that we would use, but maybe to a layperson, he would dab some oil

on the head of the person that he's praying for and then lay hands on them. Now, again,

for somebody raised in the church, we don't really think much about that, but if you're an outsider,

that probably seems really strange. Why do Pentecostals anoint people with oil when they pray?

Well, the short answer is it's a biblical teaching.
