Today we're going to talk about a passage from 1st Corinthians chapter 15 that has raised

more than a few eyebrows, and Dr. David K. Bernard is going to maybe enlighten us as to what the Apostle Paul was talking about.

Brother Bernard, in 1st Corinthians 1529, Paul asks what appears to be from the text, a rhetorical

question that has caused a lot of people to wonder what in the world he was talking about.

Paul said, and I'm quoting from the new

King James Version, he said, what will they do who are baptized for the dead if the dead do not

rise at all? Why then are they baptized for the dead? Now, as you maybe are prepared to tell us,

there's at least one religious group that has used this

as justification for actually baptizing church members in proxy for their dead ancestors.

Is that what Paul meant? What did he mean?

I certainly don't think he meant that.

And I believe this question is raised because people are looking for some kind of hope that there could be a second

chance after death for people to be saved. So I think we have to go to the basic teaching of

scripture in that regard. Hebrews 9 and 27 says it is appointed unto men once to die, but after

this the judgment.

So the basic concept the Bible presents, today is the day of salvation.

You need to choose God today.

If you reject God today, you can't expect to have a second chance after you die.

Now, some people have speculated, well, what about the babies who die?

You know, will they be allowed to grow up and have some choice? What about people who never really

heard the gospel? Or maybe they heard something but never really understood the truth of the gospel.
