Why did Juan Soto pick the New York Mets?

Our last caller before the break, a great Yankee fan, Stephen Bayside, a Yankee fan said he wanted to leave the Yankees.

He felt better about the Mets and cited that the Mets aren't done and they're going to continue being active in this offseason.

Let's get some facts out of the way just so we know it.

Even with the addition of Juan Soto, the Mets currently have a payroll of about $230 million,

which is well below last year's number because they had a lot of money coming off the box.

Right.

So even with adding Soto's $51 million a year, the Mets had so much money come off the books, even including

the signing of Clay Holmes and Frankie Montas. They now have, and this includes arbitration

eligible guys, rookies, all that, about 2.30. The Yankees guaranteed amount of money right now

after losing Juan Soto is also 230.

So I want to make that clear before Hal gets killed for, well, Soto saw what they were going to

spend. Well, wait a second. If Soto resigns, they're at 280. That's right. So again, that's the

information. Use it in your brain however you want.

But the idea of, well, he looked at the Mets commitment to spending versus the Yankees' commitment to spending.

We need to be fair about what the Yankees have already committed to spending.

And if you want to rip that and say, hey, signing Carlos Rodan was a mistake,

signing DJ Lemay Hugh was a mistake.

Fair game.

They were mistakes.

But that's the guaranteed number that the Yankees in the Mets out.

That's number one.
