When people speak about Christ coming to earth the first time, they usually talk about how he came.

But the great emphasis of Scripture is on why he came.

Today, we examine the purpose statements found throughout the gospel records. Each of them

1 Timothy chapter 3, verse number 16 says,

Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. In other words, there's no controversy

about this. Jesus did come. The eternal son of God left and laid aside his glory, put on a robe of humanity, and came to this

earth. It is not just about, did he come? It is rather this, why did he come? At Christmas each

year, we spend so much talking about how he came that I think far too often we neglect the greater truth, and the greater truth is not just how he came, and I think far too often we neglect the greater truth,

and the greater truth is not just how he came, it is why he came. You see, our Lord Jesus Christ

came on a divine mission. He came on a rescue mission from heaven to earth. He came with a divine

purpose to reach man for the glory of God.

And so for the next few episodes, I'd like to study with you straight from the Bible

why Jesus came. And to begin this study, we're not going to Bethlehem, we're not going

to the manger, we're not going to the beginning of the gospel records. I want you to go to the end.
