Sinéad Burke is acutely aware of details that are practically invisible to many of us. At 105 centimeters (or 3’ 5”) tall, the designed world -- from the height of a lock to the range of available shoe sizes -- often inhibits her ability to do things for herself. Here she tells us what it's like to navigate the world as a little person and asks: "Who are we not designing for?"

0:21.8	And it is.
0:23.2	I left Ireland yesterday morning.
0:25.6	I traveled from Dublin to New York independently.
0:29.4	But the design of an airport, plane and terminal
0:33.5	offers little independence when you're 105.5 centimeters tall.
0:38.3	For Americans, that's three feet five inches.
0:42.3	I was whisked through the airport by airline assistance in a wheelchair.
0:47.3	Now, I don't need to use a wheelchair,
0:50.3	but the design of an airport and its lack of accessibility means that it's my only
0:56.8	way to get through. With my carry-on bag between my feet, I was wheeled through security,
1:04.0	pre-clearance, and I arrived at my boarding gate. I used the accessibility services in the airport because most of the terminal is just not designed with me in mind.
1:14.6	Take security, for example.
1:17.6	I'm not strong enough to lift my carry-on bag from the ground to the carousel.
1:22.6	I stand at eye level with it,
1:25.6	and those who work in that space for safety purposes
1:29.3	cannot help me and cannot do it for me.
1:33.3	Design inhibits my autonomy and my independence.
1:38.3	But traveling at this size, it isn't all bad.
