Measuring and reporting portfolio temperature rise remains challenged, as investors seek to meet

the TCFD's new alignment guidance, and only a handful of asset managers have the necessary

tools to measure it.

In today's episode, Natasha Gerda, head of research at Astoria,

explains why calculate the temperature of a portfolio.

To limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius and avoid the most severe impacts

of climate change global emissions need to reach net 0 by 2050.

The temperature of a portfolio is a measure disclosing the alignment of a portfolio holdings

with the goals of the Paris Agreement. Temperature ratings give an investor

a clear science-based and uniform standard for taking and measuring actions towards this goal.

It's a key starting point to align the portfolio with long-term temperature goals such as 1.5 degrees Celsius.

So this measure is an assessment of the short and medium term of a company's climate ambition and strategy.

It aims to translate corporate targets in long-term temperature trajectories outcomes between 1.5 and 5 degrees Celsius.

It's basically a linear regression between scenario variables being 2,200 global greenhouse gas pathways,

and the temperature alignments of both short-term and mid-term targets and long-term targets

of a single company in a portfolio.
