This upcoming Sunday's Palm Sunday, when you go to Mass, that means you get the

really long gospel reading.

It's the passion narrative, but I'm really excited this year because we get to hear

from Matthew's account of Christ's passion.

And I'm going to give you something to chew on, something to reflect on as you're hearing Matthew's presentation

of the Passion of Jesus Christ this Sunday. And I want to zoom in on one particular scene from

Matthew's gospel. It comes from the trial of Jesus before Caiaphas and the chief priests. You

may remember the story. There's all these

different testimonies that are being presented, but the testimonies don't match up. And Caius stands up,

and he puts Jesus under the oath. And he says, Jesus, I demand you tell me, are you the Christ?

And Jesus says, you have said so. You ever wonder what that means? You have said so. What kind of response is that?

Imagine if I noticed that some people in my house ate the cookies and I go up to one of my kids and

said, did you eat the cookies? And they say, you have said so. What does that really mean? We're

going to talk about that and unpack that. But then Jesus, after saying you have said so, he goes on to talk about himself as the son

of man.

And after he refers to himself as the son of man, everything changes.

The mood changes.

It's a turning point in the whole trial.
