But let's begin by talking about Brees Hall. The running back received the franchise tag from

the Jets. The two sides will try and work out a

long-term extension before the deadline in July. Our first questions about Preece's contract.

John, everyone is worried about paying a running back $15 million a year. You can insert other

positions and amounts as you'd like. But with the cap increasing yearly, not to mention

inflation in general, wouldn't it be better

to evaluate contracts by percentages of the cap?

How would that affect our calculus of cap allocation?

Well, it's not inflation in general that impacts the salary cap.

It's how much money the league generates.

And the players and owners negotiate what percentage of revenue the players receive

each year. And that's what helps to calculate what the salary cap is. But the general question is,

you know, how do we judge the value of contracts? And generally speaking, the salary cap goes up

every year because the league makes more money
