Okay. Now, now is the winter of our discontent. So, says Richard III. He is miserable.

His brother just sees the throne, leaving him powerless. But it is the winter, the winter of Richard's discontent, meaning soon there will be a

thaw, a spring during which Richard will act upon the world and seize what is owed him,

the very throne of England. I bring up Richard the 3rd this morning because I need you to think I'm smart.

So, now that some of you are convinced, I'm more literate than I actually am, today is December 21st, 2023.

I believe, because I'm not really that smart,

I believe it is the shortest day of the year.

Autumn just ended.

Winter begins.

But starting tomorrow on December 22nd, the days grow longer. For the past three

months, we have grown increasingly gloomy, despondent, sad. And it all culminates right now on

December 21st, the shortest day of the year.

Tomorrow, the days grow longer and more light will shine on us.

We just have to get through today.

Sunnier days, I promise you, sunnier days await us.

Indeed, this truly is the winter of our discontent.

was president and Mitch McConnell controlled the Senate. In January of 2021, Joe Biden took office and

the Democrats took control the Senate. We already had the House of

Representatives. In fewer than two years, Joe Biden was able to get enough Americans vaccinated

so that our economy could open up and create more jobs than any president in American history.
