If you have spent any time in online Christian spaces, you have undoubtedly seen the following

scenario take place many times.

A Christian with a public platform critiques something that another Christian with a public

platform has said, and immediately the backlash comes.

Not necessarily about the substance of the critique, but about the very fact that a Christian

would call out another Christian to begin with.

This is a really concerning trend within the church, because when we take a step back and really

look at what the New Testament

has to say, it's very clear that we are supposed to guard doctrine and call out false teaching.

And yet when you do that publicly today, there are a lot of Christians who say, whoa, whoa, whoa,

you shouldn't be doing that. But the New Testament is really clear on this. Let me give you just a few

examples. In Romans 1617, Paul says,

I appeal to you brothers to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles,

contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught, avoid them. Paul is saying,

avoid the people who are teaching false doctrine.

How can you do that if you don't know who is teaching it?

Galatians 1, 6 through 9, Paul says, But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preach to you, let him be accursed.

As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be a cursed.

This is a pretty serious deal for Paul.

In Galatians 2, 11, 14, Paul is publicly confronting Peter and rebuking him because the truth of the gospel was at stake.

In Titus 1.9, it says that elders must both encourage sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.

2. Timothy 4-2-4 says that pastors are to reprove, rebuke, and exhort because a time will come when people will not endure sound teaching.
