Summary

Romans 6:19 - 23 - For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification. 20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. 22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

0:32.0

to keep ourselves on track because we forget who we are and we forget

0:36.7

whose we are. I want to ask you a question. Think back in your life to a time when someone who knew you in the past and knew you to be a certain way

0:48.0

met you again in the present and they made assumptions about you based on your past that are no longer true.

0:57.4

What does that feel like?

0:59.3

That can be kind of a disheartening thing in one way, it can be an angering thing in another way.

1:04.8

And the reason why is because it's somewhat of an assumption on the part of the other person that

1:10.4

you have not changed or grown during that time that you've been apart.

1:15.0

Now the reason I ask you that question is because Paul is talking to us today

1:20.0

about who we used to be before we placed our faith in Jesus Christ

1:25.3

compared to who we are now. And the point he's driving home is that there

1:30.4

should be a tremendous change between who we were and who we are.

1:36.9

Said simply, who you were is not who you are anymore. That makes sense.

1:45.8

Let's read the passage and then we're going to come back and talk about it. This is beginning in Romans chapter 6 verse number 19 and we're starting in the second half of that verse.
