This is the Guardian.

Today, House Scotland's leadership campaign

is exposing divisions within the SMP.

It was never going to be easy to replace Nicholas Sturgeon.

This charismatic woman,

who's been leader of the Scottish government

for more than eight years,

had become the topic of her party.

She had, she implied in her resignation speech last month,

become something of a distraction.

I feel more and more each day,

now, that the fixed opinions people increasingly have about me.

As I see some fear, others little more than caricature.

Are being used as barriers to reasoned debate in our country?

It was time for someone else to lead the country

towards that single goal that unites SMP members

to make Scotland independent.

What I do know is that the SMP is a wash

with talented individuals.

What I am looking forward to,

and I think the country will enjoy over these next few weeks,

is seeing that talent.
