In the Old Testament, there was a separation between God and man,

and the Tabernacle pictured this.

Later, the temple pictured this,

and there was a separation between God and man.

That separation is gone in the new covenant.

And yet if you are hearing the law preached and if you are being taught that you've got to do this, this, and this in order for God to love you and accept you and answer your prayer,

you are back under the Old Testament law mentality,

and it will keep you from intimacy with God

because your conscience will be activated by the law

and you'll be guilt-ridden and feel unworthy.

Very descriptive of the average Christian.

In verse 9, it says, and I read this a while ago,

which was a figure for the time then present

in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices

that could not make him that did the service perfect as pertaining to the conscience.

The Old Testament law did not set you free from an evil conscience, it gave you an evil conscience, it made your conscience condemn you and

kill you.
