Hey I'm Brian Hyatt and this is Rolling Stone Music Now.

It's been 50 years since the Who put out who's next that anniversary just happened

and this was a peak moment in what we'd then look back and call classic rock

which really of course was a radio format and not a genre but it was a

peak in some ways it was a landmark album it was only separated by a couple of

months from Led Zeppelin 4, which was another pillar, which still is.

The Classic Rock Radio format still exists. Classic Rock still exists.

It's another super essential pillar of that sound, that format, that idea.

1971 was a wild deer altogether from music.

It also saw the release of what's going on, which is actually the number one album of all time,

according to Rolling Stones's latest list, and we talked a lot about that particular album on the

podcast last year and also on the 500 songs podcast has a whole episode devoted to it so

she definitely checked that out but something about the confluence of

those two albums who's next and, and Led Zepp and Ford, both turning 50, seemed to merit

kind of a look back at a bunch of things surrounding that and a bunch of things to talk about surrounding that.

It raises a lot of discussion topics.
