Hey, I'm Brian Hyatt, and this is Rolling Stone Music Now.

Today we're going to celebrate the life and career of a rock and world giant, Charlie Watts, the drummer for the Rolling Stones for six decades,

died on August 24th at the age of 80.

And it was kind of a shock to everyone.

We knew that he was taking a leave

from the upcoming Stone's tour for a medical issue but no one expected

this and I think everyone's just taking it in to huge loss. We have with us

Rob Sheffield and Hank Steamer who are going to talk a little bit

about Charlie's legacy but first let's hear from a couple of his peers. Here's a bit of an interview I did with Max Weinberg, of

course the drummer for the East Street band and a friend of Charlie's shortly after he heard

the news.

I have a beautiful note from Keith that he wrote after he read the Big Beat where he references Charlie,

you know, and I'm feeling for kids because there are many, myself included, many would be

Charlie Watts type drummers, but there was only, and there will ever only be

one Charlie Watts.

And Rous and Peace, and you know, I can tell you this, on board the song Born in the USA,

when Bruce pulled out that rift, I went right to street fighting man.

And I've been listening to it a lot that day.

You know, we were recording the album more than USA and when I was laying down that drum part, I'm thinking,

okay, I'm Charlie Watts. I'm going to do my best Charlie

wants even to the little eighth note which is right off of street fighting man

so I'm I'm recalling him fondly but and you know not long ago last time I tweeted we
