Booth has already killed Lincoln, and Payne or Powell has attacked sewer.

Harold was pretty much the whipping boy for this whole situation.

And as Booth was leaving after the deed, he was followed up not by David Harold, but by

Edward Henson. Harold had rented a horse from nailers that day, but so had Henson.

Now, Booth arrives alone at the one passable exit from D.C.

And there were soldiers stationed there.

Picking it up from Dark Union,

it's written here that with a 9 o'clock curfew imposed on unofficial crossings of the Potomac,

or at that point it might be the Anacostia.

The Navy Yard Bridge was guarded by a sergeant and a detail of the third heavy artillery main volunteers.

Earlier that evening, the sergeant had told his men that a password,

T.B, would be used for crossing, with the countersign, T.B. Road.

The soldier who revealed this thought a curious that, quote,

until then we had never had orders to use such a password.

He was stationed on the Maryland side of the bridge.

Between 10 and 11, he heard through the blockhouse door, a horse coming over from Washington at a

gallop.

The soldier and his corporal sprang outside and demanded of the rider where he was bound.

T.D. was the response.
