The head of the World Health Organization says the Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza

is no longer functioning.

Tedros Adalam Gabrielesus described the situation as dire and perilous.

His comments come as health officials there say thousands of people remain trapped in

Al-Shifa, the territory's biggest hospital. Doctors say premature babies are in danger

and have had to be taken out of incubators because electricity has been cut.

Hamas is reported to be breaking off negotiations over the release of hostages
