Good morning, Vietnam. There have been so many musical and cinematic representations of the Vietnam War that it's easy to forget

some of the harsh realities of a conflict that lasted for over 19 years and according to

reliable estimates led to the death of 2 million citizens, a

million North Vietnamese and Viet Cong fighters and 60,000 American combat troops.

But since that war ended in April 1975 when Saigon fell to the North Vietnamese,

it's been regularly cited by American political commentators as a perfect example of a failed strategy,

a war, well best forgotten in which the mightiest nation on earth was soundly defeated.

But an important new book argues that we need to go back to that war in order to understand the emergence
