Summary
We asked a series of questions about the rest of the season on our podcast last Thursday, mostly concerning Manchester United's "squad" players and what they need to do in the last three league game to stake their claim for a prominent role next season.
In the first of those three games, at Sunderland, it's fair to say we were left rather underwhelmed by the answers. With the caveat that they haven't played much football recently, and this was an unusually low-stakes fixture, messers Zirkzee, Mount, Amad, even Martinez looked a little flat.
Let's hope for the return of Casemiro at Old Trafford next time out and fingers crossed Bruno can get the two assists he needs to become the single-season record holder without needing to get over the line at Brighton. United's captain was rewarded for his stellar season with the FWA player of the season award but chasing that prize gives him and his teammates a mini-target to shoot (or pass) for.

| 0:37.1 | obviously. There's also Bruno Fernandez, who has won the football writers player of the year. It's caused a bit of a debate. We'll get into all the details of that. And obviously, Casimir, missing, caused a huge issue for Manchester United. That's another element of the summer planning that they need to get right. |
| 0:54.4 | We'll talk about that too. We're here in the studio in Manchester. Carl and Loria are here and he's joining on the line as well. Good morning everyone. Carl, you made the trip up to the stadium of light, the stadium of rain, however it was termed, gloominess generally, a nil-nill-nill draw. Was it worth the trip the trip yeah it was my first time to sunland i |
| 1:11.9 | wore the completely wrong jacket for it so i was a bit chilly part way through i was sat next to and and andy was also like it's a bit cold in it yeah and that was the main form of conversation was that your main takeaway from the day from a really i'm really gutted i missed it was it was a It was a trap, nil-nil. |
| 1:27.8 | It was a nil-nil where you're going. |
| 1:29.7 | Okay, Manchester Night of Qualify for the day. I'm really gutted. I missed it. It was a drab, nil-nil. |
| 1:55.6 | It was a nil-nil where you're going, okay, Manchester night of qualify for the Champions League, but also some of these fringe players will not be playing major minutes in the Champions League next season. Yeah, I mean, I'm caught handy between two thoughts, really. One of them is that it's unfair to judge these players, particularly the ones who came in who'd not played for a while when it's just one game, when it is a rotated team, when the motivation is maybe not, it's absolute maximum and to get the points and all that. |
| 2:01.7 | And also then watching that game and thinking, yeah, maybe it does underline some of the concern we've got about the depth in this squad. |
| 2:09.6 | I think they're all fair points. It was a come down after Liverpool. I think you've got to credit Sunderland as well, the way they played. |
| 2:19.2 | And I think it was probably always going to be a tough game. And then you're bringing in the new players, as you say. And it's difficult just to turn it on and sunderland came straight at at manchester united and also it was freezing so nobody |
| 2:26.1 | could be prepared for that i had a bobble at on in may in sunderland i mean i'm like i know it's |
| 2:33.9 | not always likeed out there. |
| 2:35.1 | And I think yesterday was a completely nice day, |
| 2:37.9 | but it was a pretty drab and miserable day on Saturday. |
| 2:42.1 | I don't think a nil-nil draw, having qualified for the Champions League, |
| 2:47.2 | is the end of the world for Manchester United. |
| 2:50.1 | No, I know what you mean. |
