would you mind telling the winds to be quiet?

Now, I think had they come in that spirit, Jesus wouldn't have accused them of unbelief.

In this episode of Light and Truth, John Piper turns to Luke 8 verses 22 to 25 to show why panic

in hardship isn't just human weakness, it's unbelief that forgets who sleeps in the boat.

Well, what we want to do now is ask some questions about verses 22 to 25, this stilling of the storm scene. I think that the reason Luke put these four

miracle stories together for us, and the reason Jesus performed them in this way is to

encourage us to rest in the word of Jesus.

The word that was discussed in verses 1 to 21 of chapter 8 is now illustrated in power, as it were.

And you can see that if you go through here and notice that

it's by his command that Jesus does what he does.

By his command, he silences the sea.

By his command,

he sends this demon out,

and it is by command in the end

that he raises up, Jarus' daughter from the dead.

Jesus' words are powerful words.

And therefore we ought to be encouraged to hang on these words

and to bank on these words in four circumstances of life.
