God tells you, delight yourself in the Lord.

You can't choose between duty and delight if delight is your duty.

You can't choose them.

It's a false dichotomy.

It's a category confusion.

Category confusions calls all kinds of problems in philosophy. And one of them is you should go for obedience and not joy, when in fact

we're commanded by the God we should obey to be happy in Him all over the place in the Bible.

Here's my second objection.

What about self-denial, John?

You talk about being a hedonist and constantly pursuing your own pleasure

and your own delight in God.

It doesn't sound like Jesus' teachings to me about

he who would be my disciple, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

And my response to that kind of objection, as with many, many objections biblically,

is usually read the rest of the passage.

If anybody objects to something biblical by reading a portion of the Bible,

the generally the best response is read the rest of the passage.
