This week, the Catholic Church celebrates the feast of our lady of the rosary.

And as Catholics, we hear many wonderful things about the rosary.

We hear how powerful it is.

It can transform your life, bring you closer to God, bring about conversions of souls.

It can save marriages, the family that prays together, stays together, it's often said.

And that's all true.

The rosary is beautiful.

But at the same time, can I ask you a question?

Do you ever struggle with the rosary?

Do you ever find it to be a really hard prayer to pray?

I mean, I know on one hand, it's pretty basic, right?

It's our fathers, Hail Mary's, Glory B's.

That's like the basics, the ABCs of Catholic piety.

But at the same time, it is a really hard prayer.

Despite our best intentions, we struggle, right?

Let me just ask you. I mean, does your mind ever wander when you pray the rosary? Do you ever, you know, just tell yourself, okay, this time I'm going to really concentrate. It's the first joyful mystery. I'm going to think about that angel coming to Mary, and I'm really going to meditate on the mystery. And about three beads in, you find yourself suddenly thinking about what's for dinner tonight?

Or something someone said to you in the office today. Huh, what did she mean by that? Oh, wait, I'm sorry. I'm supposed to be thinking about Gabriel and Mary. And hearing I'm thinking about the food for dinner or a conversation in the office. Or maybe sometimes, do you ever treat the rosary like a spiritual chore?

You know it's good and you know it's pious and it's holy. But it's like the marathon of all Catholic devotions. It just keeps going on and on and on. And there's a part of you that can't

wait for it to be over. And you kind of feel bad about that, but you're praying along and all of a sudden you're looking and going, oh, it's only the second sorrowful mystery. And every decade really does feel like 10 years. And there's a part of you feels bad about that because you know how beautiful the rosary is. Or do you ever do this one?
