When You Need Another Chance: John 21:  Daily Devotional, Daily Bible Study In this episode, Rachael Groll reflects on the familiar feelings of failure and the way Jesus steps into those moments with restoration and purpose. Looking at John 21, she shows how Jesus meets His disciples in the middle of their ordinary work, invites them to try again, and gently restores what feels broken, especially in Peter’s story. Rachael reminds listeners that Jesus not only forgives our failures but also calls us forward into a meaningful, personal mission with Him. This conversation encourages you to pay attention to how Jesus is leading you, loving you, and shaping your story right now. ☆Pick up a copy of my latest book:  Knowing God’s Voice  ☆Go Deeper and Learn to Hear God’s Voice: Knowing Jesus Course ☆Get Ad-Free Episodes, Bonus Content, and more here:  patreon.com/HearingJesus ☆To Learn More About Sponsoring a Child, check out Compassion International here: ➤  Sponsor a Child ☆Go on a trip with Rachael: Bible Study Live ☆Have a question for Rachael? Failure can feel different when it involves others. Jesus meets us where we are, even in failure. Restoration is about stepping back into God's mission. Human effort apart from God can lead to emptiness. Jesus' guidance transforms our ordinary routines. Restoration involves vulnerability and relational leadership. Our calling is personal and not determined by others. God's grace equips us for our next steps. There is always more to Jesus' work than we can see. Hey friends, I'm Rachel Grohl and I'm your host for the Hearing Jesus podcast, where I help you to know God and to make him known.

0:10.9

Have you ever had a moment of failure?

0:13.6

I guess that's a silly question. I think all of us have had a moment of failure.

0:17.2

I remember when I was young, feeling the weight of failure so much. And I know that

0:23.0

we're always our own worst critics, but there's something about failure that feels different

0:28.8

when it's not just about a personal failure, but it comes at the hands of other people. So maybe

0:35.5

that's getting fired at a job. I think almost every

0:39.7

entrepreneur I know has been fired from a job at least once in their lives. Today we're looking

0:47.6

at this idea of failure. I think most of us, if we haven't felt like we've failed, we've certainly had moments where we feel

0:56.5

like we've missed the mark. I know even in ministry, sometimes what happens is selfishness gets in the

1:04.1

way and we know that God is calling us to do something and maybe we just don't do it. We know that he's called

1:09.9

us to do it and yet we struggle.

1:13.3

Those things happen. It's part of the human experience. Well, today we're finishing up

1:19.1

the gospel of John with chapter 21. On the surface, it looks like it's a story about fishing,

1:30.0

but it's actually a story about you and me.

1:32.2

It's about restoration after failure.

1:35.6

It's about those moments where we find direction after we feel like we've been lost.

1:42.7

And it's about stepping back into the mission that God has for us and often when we do that

1:49.6

we still feel like we're unworthy but Jesus he meets us where we're at and so today as we

2:00.2

step into the story together I want you to hold in your

2:03.8

heart what it means to be restored and called and sent by Jesus, even after things happen

2:12.1

that we think disqualify us. I'm going to be in John chapter 21, starting at verse 1.
