0:18.9	In August of 2021, an author, Christian, and employee of the National Religious Broadcasters Association, a guy named Dan Darling, wrote a column in USA Today, and in that column he was explaining
0:26.8	why he was going to get the COVID vaccine.
0:29.7	Now again, in the article, he's also trying to explain why about 25% of evangelicals were hesitant to get the vaccine.
0:36.1	And he argues that their mistrust of institutions and health authorities wasn't unfounded.
0:41.9	Nonetheless, he personally felt that it was best to go ahead and
0:45.3	take the vaccine. Now this article it was about the most balanced kind nuanced
0:50.3	article you could imagine on the subject but when he got back to work the next day
0:54.3	his boss called him into his office and told him he was fired. He said that he
0:58.8	broke the National Religious Broadcaster Association's Neutrality policy about COVID vaccines.
1:04.5	And Dan found this kind of confusing
1:06.2	because there had already been people
1:07.8	speaking about the issue with non-neutrality
1:10.0	and his article wasn't even argumentative, but none of that mattered.
1:13.9	He was out.
1:15.0	For the next two weeks, his name was in national headlines.
1:18.2	From the New York Times to CNN to Morning Joe,
1:21.0	they all sounded the same.
1:22.6	Christian gets fired for saying that he's pro vaccines.
1:26.2	But back at home, Dan was deeply discouraged.
