Summary
John 15:18-21 - “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. 21 But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me.

| 0:48.0 | Well, let's do that by going back to John chapter 15 and we are looking at verses 18 |

| 0:56.1 | Jesus is speaking to his disciples and he says what I believe is one of the hallmarks |
| 1:02.0 | of Jesus teaching and that is a very blunt, a very clear, a very reality-based statement. |
| 1:10.5 | He says, if the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. |
| 1:16.4 | Now let's stop for a moment and think about this through the lens of parenting. |
| 1:20.9 | Parents sometimes want to shelter their children from the harsh realities of the world. |
| 1:25.8 | They don't want them to have to deal with too many grown-up things before it's time. |
| 1:32.2 | You know, we are trying to preserve their childhood and their innocence and those kinds |
| 1:35.1 | of things and I think that motive is not to be faulted but carrying that out as a parent |
