Well you might be experiencing a difficulty in your relationship with your child.

At some point or another kids shut down or they get upset and they lock you out of their lives and if that's you if you're feeling discouraged hang on we have some hope for you.

I'm John Fuller with the head of our parenting team Dr Danny Wert to and Danny, it feels like parent, child, relational difficulties isn't new, but it feels like we see so much more of it these days especially with smart phones I mean that's just

the reality of it I know we've talked about it before I don't want it to get so the phone

is a wedge in the relationship it does strain, especially if you're trying to

put boundaries if there haven't been before. But when I looked at

estimates on this and just from an anecdotal perspective I see like 20 to 40 percent on average of parents have a strained relationship with at least one child.

Now strained is a very, very deep word, right? There's a lot of definition to that.

And that means that there's a complete disconnection.

It was interesting to see that parents of toddlers

have said about 80% of parents of toddlers have said that their

relationship and connection with their child is excellent. That's fantastic and

then when you look at teen parents of teens 48% say that their connection is excellent.

So somewhere, things are happening there

throughout their development.

And the reality is, teens are beginning to develop

or are developing their opinion they want

autonomy they want that independence they want to be able to be their own people

and so clearly it's more so likely that you're going to have a strained relationship

with your teen at some point and if there isn't strain at some point in your teen's life, you may not be putting boundaries with that child.
