So I'm not going to be talking about the policy implications of Tuesday.

Obviously from a personal perspective I feel that it was a disaster. I am old enough, I must admit to have experienced the change that happened when the Carter administration, yes, I was alive then,

switched to the Reagan, so I know what it's like

when you have really dispiriting negative turn of events.

And there will be, without doubt, a lot of pending legislation and policy decisions that will deeply negatively affect so many already historically

marginalize and abuse communities, including but not limited to people of color, women, LGBTQ, disabled, and pretty

much anybody who's ever been abused at any point in their life will be triggered by this.

So just a small amount of people will be negatively affected.

Fortunately, one thing that the 80s and 90s when I was at my most activist showed me that of course banding together and nonviolent but direct action has almost invariably always produced amazing results and

can forestall some of the most draconian and horrific attempts to deprive people of their rights and safety.

In the 1980s I was first brought into activism by the anti-apartheid movement, very much active in the people in solidarity with the people of El Salvador.

And we did a lot of direct action and it was really beneficial.

So there's no limit to what gathering and direct action can accomplish.

I do believe, I'm hoping that the leadership of this upcoming movement will be from people and communities

that are going to be the most affected.

Women of color, people of the LGBTQ communities, the disabled, I don't think it should

be a white guy with tattoos. I will be there with you hopefully following their lead.

There's just been too many attempts by white guys to try to fix and solve everything.
