One of my favorite things about the community we have around this show is the ongoing conversation not just between my guests, but with you, the listener. Whether it’s through my email newsletter, social media, or texting, the community we’ve built over 10+ years is real. This year, many of you asked for guests who are on their way up. Folks who have put what they've learned into action. Well, I could not think of a better show to bring in the New Year with one such guest, Paul Ninson.
Paul is a documentary photographer and aspiring Cinematographer, born in Kumasi, Ghana. He's also a long time listener of the show. Having discovered this podcast and CreativeLive as a curious and budding photographer, Paul decided to sell his phone to buy his first camera. That was just three years ago. His path from then to now is incredibly inspirational, including a chance meeting of Brandon Stanton of Humans of New York in Ghana, connecting with yours truly, and eventually making his way to his dream school at the International Center of Photography in New York where he was awarded the Director's Fellowship and George Moss Merit Scholarship.
To date, Paul's work has been featured in the World Photography Organization, and exhibited at the British Council. He was one for the official state photographers for the HRH The Prince of Wales and the HRH The Duchess of Cornwall's visit to Ghana. He has worked for various NGOs and organizations including Discovery Learning Alliance, Ark Foundation, United Nations, and many many more.
Very excited for you to hear Paul's story and I hope you get a chance to view his work. You can find him at @pninson on instagram or paulninson.com.
Enjoy + Happy New Year!

0:25.1 | This podcast has been happening for 10 plus years. |
0:29.7 | And the community that has formed around it is real. |
0:33.3 | It's not just a one-way broadcast where I'm talking into a microphone. |
0:39.3 | I have a guest and you listen. What I love about it is there's genuine live interaction when we make these things a lot of the time. |
0:45.3 | I read all of the comments that are posted across the web about all these things. |
0:50.3 | And to that end, this show today is in response to something that you all have |
0:57.6 | been asking for, which is people who are on their way up. We would love for you to have on the show, |
1:05.2 | Chase, someone who is on their way up, someone who maybe was inspired early on by something on Creative Live |
1:14.1 | or hearing the show and then has taken action. And that is someone who's relatable because |
1:20.3 | it's nice when you have Richard Branson on. But we all are not aspiring to be Richard Branson, |
1:26.9 | while we might want to be inspired by him. |
1:30.1 | We want people that we can connect with. |
1:32.3 | People are actually doing the work and prescribing it and getting results. |
1:36.2 | That, my friends, is what I heard. |
1:39.0 | And so in an effort to deliver on that, I thought we would have on as a guest today, Mr. Paul Ninson. |
1:46.6 | Now, some of you right now who know Paul's work, you're like, wait a minute, Paul is, |
1:51.0 | he's making it. He's, he's big in his own right. And absolutely 100% true. But just three years |
1:57.8 | ago, Paul Ninson was not even a photographer. |
2:12.5 | Now, if you don't know anything about Paul, a little bio and background on him, he is now a documentary photographer and cinematographer, born in Kumasi Ghana. |
