Hi and welcome to the A16Z podcast. I'm Hannah and this is another in our series of all remote

0:05.7

podcasts. We're at a moment where we're now seeing medicine go virtual faster and at a scale

0:10.7

that it has never done before. So in this conversation with A16Z Bio General Partners,

0:15.8

VJ Ponday and Julie You, who come from the worlds of biotech and care delivery, we talk about what exactly virtual care and telemedicine is and what it isn't,

0:24.8

what it works well for, what doesn't yet, and where there's potential.

0:28.8

And finally, the current pain points, including regulation,

0:32.2

what those different categories are? Is it all the same thing? Like, what are we actually

1:10.1

talking about here? Typically, what are we actually talking about here?

1:11.1

Typically, what people think about when we say virtual care is probably the traditional sort of video

1:15.9

visit, where, you know, you have two screens. The patient and the provider are talking to each other

1:20.4

live. You know, virtual care, I think, is much more of like a broader paradigm around, you know,

1:25.3

how do you sort of overcome the constraints of the traditional

1:29.3

healthcare system, which are largely, I would say two things. One is geography, which is that,

1:35.0

you know, typically you as a patient, the demand side of the market only really has access to the

1:38.8

supply side that is within a reasonable radius of where they physically are. And then also
