Welcome to the dispatch podcast. This is Jamie Weinstein. My guest today is

Motti Friedman. He is an author and journalist, most recently of a celebrated book called

Koo by Fire, Leonard Cohen in the Sinai.

You can see his bylines in the New York Times and in tablet magazine,

but he is perhaps best known for his 2014 piece in tablet

magazine called an insider's guide to the most important story on Earth. It is his tale of his time at the AP where he was a

reporter in Israel reporting on the Arab-Israeli-Palestinian conflict. And what he

tells in that piece and what he tells on this podcast is what I would

call the corruption that exists in the foreign press in Israel, where they push a narrative

about what they believe the conflict should be about

instead of reporting on what the conflict and what is happening on the ground.
