Welcome to Loan Officer Freedom, the #1 podcast in the country for loan officers, hosted by Carl White.

In this episode, Carl sits down with Brandon Hutchenson, a producing branch manager at Summit Funding with over two decades in the mortgage business, to share one of the most raw and honest conversations ever recorded on the show. Brandon opens up about growing up with very little, building a successful mortgage business, and what happened when a series of personal and financial blows nearly took everything he had built.

Brandon walks through how drifting away from the fundamentals of his mortgage business led to massive distractions, broken trust, financial loss, and overwhelming stress. He explains how losing focus on the one thing that built his success created ripple effects across his team, his finances, and his personal life and why discipline in the same direction is non negotiable for long term success.

You will also hear how consistent marketing, database follow up, and staying visible with referral partners became the stabilizing force that helped him keep producing even during the most difficult season of his career. Brandon shares powerful lessons on grief, humility, resilience, and why achievement without purpose never leads to fulfillment.

If you want a real world reminder of why consistency beats chaos, why marketing is your safety net, and why keeping the main thing the main thing matters more than ever, this episode with Brandon Hutchenson is a must listen.

1:11.7

It's a really great place to live. But we're right in a very wealthy area. It's like the eighth wealthiest county in the nation. So there's just a ton of a lot of money here, country music stars, professional athletes, a lot of things like that. So it's a really, really wealthy area. It's just a cool, very safe, you know, good area.

1:10.8

Did not like that. So it's a really, really wealthy area. It's just a cool, very safe,

1:45.2

you know, good area. Did not know that. Yeah. So it's a, would you say the fifth wealthiest? I think the eighth wealthiest last year, um, county in the nation. And so it's just, it's a tremendous amount of money. So Nashville's a big, obviously it's music city, but then it's also a big health care hub. And so you've got like all these health care billionaires, you know, and everything. And they're here. But then we have a lot of like professional athletes, movie stars, things like that as well moved to this area. It's just there's no state income tax. Our property taxes are really low. So it's just a real, and like I say, it's a safe place to live. Great public school system.

But see, they got a state tax area. We're thinking, well, do we move there? You know, so anyway, hey, so what I want to talk about here is our mutual friend Jimmy hooked us up together. And he said, hey, if you want to hear a good story about overcoming adversity, you need to talk to my main man, Brandon. So I have no idea what this is about. I don't

2:24.7

know what your adversity is, but I love good stories of overcoming the odds. My favorite story

2:31.9

2:41.0

very, very, very, very lower middle class, not middle, lower class, very, you know, poor,

2:47.0

grew up poor, and things have turned out pretty good. And I love hearing people that, hey, things were stacked against them, either in the beginning or something happened somewhere in point in time. And so what's he talking about, man? What's this, is it okay for me to open with it? Oh, yeah, hey, before we do that, before we do that. So a little bit of homework, tell me about, are you branch manager, are you a loan officer? Do you own a company? Like, give me a little bit of layland of that. Yes, I'm a producing branch manager for Summit funding. Okay. So I have just a small branch for them. And so I did about 86 units last year. Fifteen minutes. So we're about about 30 million. So, yeah, that's kind of a little bit about us. And I've been with Summit for a couple years now. And I've known, I've known Todd, Jimmy, all those guys from Corday's back dating like 2009. Yeah, good few men. They're good, solid people. I love, I love Jimmy and Todd, you know, Todd, well, they don't come and he's just the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. So I really, uh, I had instant connection when I met that guy. He was he came to, came to an event we had up in Lake Tahoe, it was. And, uh, his brother was a member of our, the Freedom Club here. And so, uh, called me up and said, hey, is it okay if my brother comes, which was Todd? and I said, dude, of course. And gosh, just a really good guy.
