The day I turned 30 years old,

Ava and I went to the C&O Canal and spent most of the day hiking.

It was a wonderful day.

One of my favorite birthdays.

We had one child at the time. Our son Christopher was, might have been a year old.

And my parents watched him. So, Ava and I, we were able to do this hiking adventure without

the baby. And so it was nice in that regard as well but I remember distinctly remember

as we were walking along the tow path feeling that I'm now an adult and I don't know why

turning 30 made me feel that way.

I mean, I was already married, it was already a parent, already had a full-time job.

I was doing mornings at a radio station for whatever reason.

None of that stuff made me feel like an adult.

But turning 30 felt to me like, okay, now I'm an adult.

Fast forward, decades later.

This was probably a handful of years ago.

Was at a meeting with a group of people.

It was maybe a dozen people.

Ava and I were the oldest people in the room.

In fact, most of the people in this meeting were young enough to be our kids.

And I don't think they did this intentionally.

I don't think they were aware of what they were doing.

But when the meeting broke up and everyone started socializing and talking, everyone else kind of huddled up with each other.
