Meta has launched new anti-scam measures on WhatsApp,

Facebook, and Messenger. WhatsApp gets the bulk of them. WhatsApp will now analyze behavior,

which I think means they're using a little bit of LLM, et cetera, to warn you if it thinks a device

linking request might be fraudulent.

Scammers often will try to fool people into giving them access to their accounts by getting them to share a code or scan a QR code that links their account to a device that is under

the control of the scammer, right?

So they're like, oh, vote on this talent show.

Just give us your phone number. Then they send a link to the phone number.

You click on the link. Now you've accidentally, because you weren't paying close attention,

authorized their computer to access your account. You might never even notice it. They would just

be reading all of your messages. Meta is also testing warnings when it thinks a friend request on Facebook

might be malicious. They say the signals they look at include having a small number of mutual

connections. You don't all know the same people. Or maybe the profile location doesn't match the

region from which the account is being accessed. Anti-scam detection on Messenger is also expanding
