John Kime on the show, just about 35 minutes ago. John's written extensively about the Terry

McLaurin team standoff and where it is now

and why it is where it is. There was some news in John's story. He's got an NFL source that

indicates that they think the team would be willing to come up to $28 million per year. But Terry's

adamant about the D.K. Metcalf deal, which

just, if you don't know, $33 million a year, $60 million in guarantees. And the team just doesn't

see Terry as that level of contract. I didn't say player. I said contract. And the reason for that

is, A, the contract is unique.

He was traded to Pittsburgh, and that trade doesn't go through unless Pittsburgh agrees to pay D.K. Metcalfe what he wants.

So he had the leverage in that particular situation.

He's also two years younger, and there are people that

believe D.K. Metcalf is a better player. So they're not looking at that contract as anywhere near

a comp for those reasons. They also are heavy on analytics when it comes to this kind of a decision

with a receiver getting ready to enter his

age 30 season. And there's plenty of data that suggests that essentially after 31, which would be

the second year of this deal, that receivers really start to drop off. They also do not want to

set a precedent with a lot of contracts around the corner, Tunsel, Louvre,

potentially Latimore, and even Debo Samuel, overpaying the market for any player, including

someone like Terry. How do you want to see this thing end? How do you think it will end?

I want it to end and end soon with a contract extension.
