Summary

I was recently asked by someone...

"Pete, if you could go back and give yourself advice in the different seasons of life and ministry, what would you say?"

The truth is – every decade has its own unique invitations. As I reflected, I realized that I would say something slightly different to myself at 25, 35, 45, and even 55.

Today on the podcast, I share with you some fresh insights as I look back on my own journey and development. While my journey is different than yours, I'm hoping you'll be able to learn from my lessons - both the good and the bad!

Hi, my name is Pete Scuzaro. I want to welcome you today to the emotionally healthy leader

0:07.3

podcast. So great to be with you. And our title today is, what would I say to my 25, 35, and 45 year old self?

0:18.2

That is, what would I say to my 25, 35, 35, or 45 year old self? This was actually,

0:24.5

this topic was sent to me by a friend of mine who's been in leadership for 40, 45 years.

0:32.9

And what a phenomenal topic. I've so enjoyed thinking about it and preparing for this podcast.

0:40.2

In fact, let me encourage you, if you have a great topic, which you think would work for a podcast

0:46.1

that will stretch me and maybe take me in some new directions, let me invite you to send me that

0:51.7

topic. Go to Ask Pete at Emotionally Healthy.org. That's

0:56.6

Ask Pete at Emotionally Healthy.org because anytime I get a fresh topic like this one, it pulls

1:01.6

out of me some hard lessons and insights and I learn a great deal. So it's a gift to listeners

1:07.6

and it's a gift to me as well and all of E.H. discipleship. So again, what would I say to my

1:11.7

25, 35, or 45-year-old self? Let me make a few introductory remarks here before I launch

1:17.1

out into each. I'm going to limit myself to four kind of things, I would say, per age span.

1:26.4

But there's one of them, you'll notice, I'm going to repeat in each for the

1:29.3

25, 35, and 45-year-old person the same truth, but in increasing levels of depth. Then you'll also

1:38.8

notice that they overlap. In other words, they build on each other. But in the sense, these four that I

1:47.0

mentioned for each are priority developmental leadership tasks to grow in. And how much I wish I had

1:54.4

a mentor who had talked to me at that age about these things. I'm going to also introduce a

2:00.2

primary scripture, which I think

2:02.0

kind of encapsulates the challenge of that decade. And then I'll, I will throw in at the end,

2:07.9

a couple of thoughts for the 55-year-old as well, because being 55 and going into 65, 75, 75, and 85

2:15.2

has its own unique developmental discipleship task.
