In 1964, Harold Wilson, the Labour Prime Minister most admired by Sarkir Stama,

reported to his cabinet that the American President Lyndon Johnson was so desperate for British backing in Vietnam that he had begged

Wilson to send any force to fight alongside his GIs. However small, even he said, a bagpipe band.

According to the biography of Wilson by Star Wars Cabinet colleague Nick Thomas Simmons,

what Johnson actually wanted was the fearsome

Scottish infantry regiment, the Black Watch. Under pressure from the anti-war left of his party,

Wilson refused. Though he declared support for the Americans throughout the war, no British soldiers

were ever sent to Vietnam. Our current Prime Minister has made it clear that he doesn't want British troops firing on Iranian targets,

except in self-defense.

It may be that Starrner's hoping to emulate his idol and keep the UK out of any Iranian quagmire,

just as Wilson kept us out of Vietnam. If so, he needs to brace himself

for what comes next. Apparently, Johnson never forgave the Brits, saying bitterly that

Wilson had been playing politics and had betrayed him. The special relationship survived, just,
