I'm going to ask you a bit of a funny question. Why is the desk the mother of the chair?

0:08.6

When I first heard this question, I came up with all these different reasons why the desk was the

0:13.6

mother of the chair. The desk was like the bigger one in the office. The desk had been there

0:18.8

longer. The desk was where the responsible things were

0:22.4

done and the chair was the fun things and the chair was more of like the fun supporting character.

0:27.0

But that question is actually meaningless. The desk isn't the mother of the chair. The desk is a desk

0:31.6

and the chair is a chair. But if you came up with things like I did, it's an indication that our brains are meaning machined.

doing this podcast for about four, five years now. And I keep forgetting how long to say that I've

1:10.3

been losing weight because it keeps

1:12.0

creeping up. At some point soon it's going to be 10 years that I've kept off 40 pounds which is

1:17.5

actually going to be longer in a very quick time frame than the years that I struggle to lose it

1:24.0

because I struggled to lose weight for over a decade. And a big reason for that

1:28.8

was because of the meaning that my brain made on why I couldn't see results and why I couldn't

1:36.0

get consistent. When we don't know why something is the way that it is, our brains make the best

1:42.9

guess they can. They're constantly looking for things to make sense.

1:47.3

But it doesn't feel like a guess, it feels like truth. If you've ever been in an argument

1:53.2

with a spouse or like a good friend or maybe a co-worker, normally in that argument, you're
